Gel or Regular Polish? How to Choose This Fall

After a summer of sun and sandals, your nails deserve a smart choice. Here's how gel and regular polish compare, for hands and for feet.

Fall is the season to rethink your polish

Summer is hard on nails. Sun, pool water, sand and bare feet leave them drier and more brittle than you might notice in July. Now that sandals are going back in the closet, it's the perfect moment to ask a question we hear every day at ART Nail Studio: should I go with gel, or regular polish?

There's no single right answer. Both are beautiful, and both have a place. It depends on your nails, your routine and how often you like to change colors. Here's how they compare.

Gel polish: built to last

Gel is cured under an LED lamp, so it's fully dry the moment you leave. It's the go-to choice when you want your manicure to stay perfect for weeks.

Why guests love it

  • Lasts up to 2–3 weeks without chipping

  • No drying time, so no smudges on the way to your car

  • High-gloss finish that holds its shine

What to keep in mind

  • Removal should always be done by a professional. Peeling or picking gel off takes layers of your natural nail with it.

  • Your nails don't get a break between colors if you wear gel back to back, so we recommend a pause now and then.

Regular polish, done the French way

For regular polish, we use Manucurist, a nail care brand made in France. We chose their Green line because it lets us offer a classic manicure that's kinder to your nails.

Why we love Manucurist Green

  • Up to 84% plant-based ingredients, made from sources like cassava, cotton and potato

  • 9-free, vegan and cruelty-free

  • Enriched with coconut oil and bamboo extract to care for the nail

  • Air-dries with a gel-like shine and wears for up to 7 days

  • Removes gently with a regular polish remover, no soaking or filing

What to keep in mind

  • It needs a little drying time, so plan a few calm minutes after your appointment

  • It won't last as long as gel, which is perfect if you love switching colors often

Hands or feet? The answer can be different

For your manicure: hands work hard. Typing, cooking, washing up and cold fall air all take a toll on polish. If you want color that survives a busy few weeks, gel is usually the better fit. If you change your look often or want to give your nails a breather, choose Manucurist.

For your pedicure: toes don't face the same daily wear, so regular polish lasts much longer on feet than on hands. That makes Manucurist a great choice for fall pedicures, especially after a summer of sandals. Your nails get a gentler, plant-based formula, and removal at home is easy whenever you want a change.
